Friday, May 17 – College of Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will formally recognize students’ achievement of earning a master’s or doctoral degree during a Hooding Ceremony on Friday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. The ceremony also provides an opportunity for graduates to recognize the family, friends, and educators whose support helped make their graduation possible. The event is free and open to the public. Saturday, May 18 – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold two spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 18, at the American Bank Center Arena.
•The first ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. for the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science and Engineering.
•The second ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. for the College of Business, the College of Education, and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Keynote speaker will be Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez. For more information, go to http://commencement.tamucc.edu/.
Sunday, May 19 – The Art Museum of South Texas will host a Curator’s Talk/Wine Tasting on Sunday, May 19, at the Art Museum of South Texas, 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd. Participants will enjoy refreshments and sample Italian wines from several of the regions depicted in the current exhibition “Mediterranea: American Art from the Graham D. Williford Foundation Collection.” Mark White, Ph.D., curator at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma, and author of a catalogue on the Williford Collection, will then share his insights on the exhibition with the group. The cost is $10 for Museum members; and $14 for nonmembers (includes Museum admission). The Art Museum is affiliated with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Tuesday, May 28 – The Pollution Prevention Partnership’s AutoCheck Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host a Vehicle Emissions Testing event, “Tailpipe Tuesday” on Tuesday, May 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the end of the first entrance road on the University campus. Vehicles that are identified as polluting may qualify for free emission reducing repairs. Testing is free and open to the public. Friday, May 31 – The Art Museum of South Texas will offer “Canvas, Cocktails, and Conversation” on Friday, May 31, from 6–8 p.m. in conjunction with the downtown ArtWalk, at 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd. Artist Diana Carter will show participants how to create landscape using acrylic paint, demonstrate painting techniques, and guide participants through the creation of a vibrant Texas wildflower landscape. The cost is $35 for members; $45 for nonmembers. Appetizers and a complimentary glass of wine from the Dobson Café are included in the fee. All materials are also included. RSVPs are required. NEW: Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8 – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies will host the 66th annual Meeting of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI) from Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8, at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel, 900 North Shoreline Blvd. The theme of this year’s GCFI conference is “Natural and Artificial Reef Fisheries, Research, and Conservation.” The conference will feature thematic, technical, special, and poster sessions. Graduate student scholarships and awards are also available. Early registration through Monday, Sept. 30, is $150; $75 for students. Late registration after Sept. 30 is $200; $85 for students.
